The concert celebrates the 25th anniversary of Dorfman’s MAYNE MENTSHN (My People) – a seminal work of the LEGACY PROJECT, an acclaimed body of repertory honoring Dorfman’s roots as a child of Holocaust survivors and daughter of immigrants. Experience a sneak preview of the newest addition to the Legacy Project. This work-in-process, THE HERO WITHIN: MAX HELLER, MARY MILLS AND MIRACLES, explores themes of joy, pain, and resilience. Dorfman’s creations delve into history, connecting the past to the present, and inspire hope for a better future. The afternoon concludes with the iconic, crowd-pleasing WAVES – a joyous work that is a true celebration of community!

Saturday, December 6th: Movement class for the public – Time TBD

Monday, December 8th: Student Matinee – 10:00 am

The Morris Museum and Bickford Theater present Carolyn Dorfman Dance in The Legacy Project: A Dance of Hope. Carolyn Dorfman Dance’s (CDD) artistic and educational program is guided by the principle of DEPTH dance; Dance that Empowers People To be more Human. In this narrated and highly interactive performance, Dorfman features works from The Legacy Project: Dance of Hope, a celebrated body of work that honors her roots. This program aligns with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in Visual and Performing Arts. Students engage with themes of cultural identity, historical trauma and resilience, empathy, and creative expression. Students make connections to historical events such as the Holocaust, and explore how the arts can be used to communicate complex ideas, values, and social issues—developing both critical thinking and social-emotional learning.
