The day will consist of engaging movement, lecture workshops, and valuable opportunities to connect with fellow professionals in the field.
Presentation on Ballet Now: Training Teachers for Culture, Commerce, and Change
This discussion hopes to share ballet’s evolution through pop culture and technique used for auditions, music videos, and other performance spaces beyond ballet company life. Daphne hopes to provide educators with what's happening in ballet as it relates to artists using the tools to open new pathways including brand deals, fashion, and capitalize on ballet in the public eye through education. Discussion about technique and technology will also be discussed as new methods of learning and sharing dance have transformed.
Movement Session
Explore movement phrases that blend ballet with polyrhythms and street vernacular, expanding educators’ perspectives on the range and possibilities within classical dance styles. The session will also incorporate movement prompts and phrases that encourage storytelling, creativity, and personal expression, while considering how educators can help students develop and refine their movement quality through repetition and progression within combinations.
