Segunda Quimbamba Folkloric Center is hosting a summer festival to “reclaim the block”
after more than six years of restrictions on Second Street in downtown Jersey City. This
vibrant, diverse neighborhood has withstood construction of new housing, major sewer and
water projects, street closures, and the Covid pandemic that kept its close-knit neighbors at
a distance.
Now it’s time to celebrate and elevate a variety of live cultural traditions, to hear the
laughter and chatter of JC’s many languages, and to enjoy food and fun! This special day
will offer the opportunity for inter-generational families and new neighbors alike to re-
connect, make some noise, play outside, and enjoy the open urban space. Second St. will
be closed for the day and programs will take place outdoors, under tents, with indoor
access at the SQFC Center.
