Performing Hearts has been providing free weekly creative movement, ballet, and tap dance classes for children and adults with disabilities since 2010. The classes are taught by professional faculty along with volunteers who work with the students one-on-one throughout the school year.
Performing Hearts will be celebrating its 16th year by hosting the 2nd annual “Special Chance to Dance” showcase featuring performances by Broadway actors, professional dance company dancers, dancers from local dance studios, and the very special Performing Hearts dancers! The performance is being held at the Sparta High School Theater in Sparta, New Jersey on Sunday, June 7th, 2026 at 3pm.
Proceeds will be used in an effort to improve accessibility in the building where the classes are held in Lake Hopatcong at the Dance Academy of North Jersey as well as continue to expanding awareness about the program. Since last year’s event, Performing Hearts has been able to create two additional classes for younger students and also increase the faculty size to accommodate this growth in the program.
For those interested in joining the program: classes are open to children and adults (ages 5 to 70+) with disabilities; faculty place students in creative movement, ballet, and/or tap classes; and there are no fees for the classes or performance costumes.
