Call for Teaching Artists at NJPAC's Ailey Day!

DANCE NEW JERSEY is delighted to partner with NJPAC again this year for their annual AILEY DAY event on Saturday, April 11, 2026! We are seeking two teaching artists to supplement NJPAC's teaching roster: one specializing in teaching dance to children, and another who can teach a dance class for a mixed community.

Workshops will take place during the morning portion of the day, but teaching artists must be available to stay for full event, which will culminate in a Show/Share performance of class choreography from each workshop. A finalized schedule will be shared closer to the event.

Important Info:

  • We are seeking workshop proposals in dance genres relating to Alvin Ailey's choreographic body of work.
  • We are particularly seeking one teaching artist to lead two 30-minute workshops intended for children ages 3-9. This session will be split with an NJPAC instructor who specializes in teaching African dance.
  • All workshops should be accessible to a mixed community and include a short phrase of choreography that participants can perform during the Show/Share celebration that will close the day (teaching artists must be available for the whole event).
  • Artists should be prepared for the possibility of teaching in an open flex-space without mirrors, carpet flooring, and potential sound from other workshop sessions to carry into the space.
  • All applicants must be members of Dance New Jersey or hold dual memberships with NDEO.
  • There will be an honorarium for selected artists

To be considered to teach a workshop, apply by Monday, March 9th. A DNJ representative will be in touch with status updates by March 20th.
